Letting go with acrylic - with Paul Talbot-Greaves

In this workshop you will learn why acrylic is the perfect media for painting fast and loose.  You will learn what to focus on, when, and how, allowing you to build up loose, yet expressive paintings without over labouring details.  The day will begin with some exercise work to help you focus on what really matters, followed by an inspirational painting demonstration by Paul.  As with all of Paul's workshops, there will be plenty of expert theory and information shared, along with assistance throughout the day.

Materials
Reference material
Please bring along some photo references to work from, either printed or on an i-Pad or tablet. For best results include a grey scale (black and white) image of the same. There will be some spare photos that can be used if necessary.

Paints
Bring your usual colours along with titanium white and ivory black. As a guide, most paintings can be created from cadmium yellow light, yellow ochre, cerulean blue, French ultramarine, cadmium red, alizarin crimson, titanium white and ivory black.

Brushes
A range of various sizes of synthetic or hog brushes. I prefer to use synthetic flat brushes.

Painting Surface
Use any of the following surfaces: Winsor Newton or any brand-named acrylic paper, hot pressed or cold pressed cellulose watercolour paper, canvas, canvas board or pre-gessoed boards and surfaces. I would recommend a surface no bigger than 38 x 28cm unless you are confident in applying large areas of paint.

Palette
Either a peel clean palette, stay wet palette, ceramic or disposable palette.

Painting Mediums
Matt medium

Other equipment
Water pot, Pencil, eraser, kitchen roll, painting board, household sponge wipe (thin moppet type), masking tape, small spray bottle, newspapers or table covering, apron or old shirt, table easel (if desired).

Some spares of the items above will also be available to borrow during the day if you have forgotten or don't have these
